Most judicial ethics courses are written for state court judges, with maybe a tribal reference or two.

We built this one differently.

Judicial Ethics is a self-paced, on-demand course developed by Judge Ron Whitener specifically with tribal courts in mind. It takes about two hours to complete. Grounded in the Sample Tribal Code of Judicial Conduct, the course focuses on the ethical questions and realities judges actually encounter in Indian Country.

The training is organized around five canons:

  1. Integrity & Independence
  2. Avoiding Impropriety
  3. Judicial Duties
  4. Extra-Judicial Activities
  5. Political Activity

Instead of generic bar exam hypotheticals, we look at situations that reflect tribal court realities: navigating political dynamics in tribal communities, maintaining impartiality when relationships overlap, balancing multiple community roles, and working through the ethical gray areas that can come with serving in a close-knit community.

Built to be used, not endured. The training includes short videos, interactive activities, practical scenarios, and knowledge checks along the way. And no, you don’t need a law degree to get through it. It’s designed for judges and attorneys, as well as court administrators, clerks, tribal council members, and anyone who needs a practical understanding of judicial ethics.

As a bonus, you’re not chained to a desk: you can access it from your phone, tablet, or computer.
